The university I attend has numerous 3D printers, the most expensive of which is probably a Stratasys Fortus 400. Prints on that machine run 6$ per cubic inch (0.36$/cm^3) although sponsorship often makes the prints free.
It took everyone a few months to get used to having the service available, but it sees full time use now. A lot of student projects and teams use it. Also some work that would have gone to the machine shop is faster and cheaper on the 3d printer.
The engineering department basically uses it for everything, and science has some stuff printed for experiments as well.

I remember my high school, that was the golden days of my life. I studied from government school and there was no facility like 3D printer. Even most of the convent schools don't have this technique to teach. However, this is best way to teach and it is easy to learn about something. My opinion is cramming is not good for learn about any topic.
