How2 Refill the EEPROM of the HP DesignJet 3D aka uPrint
Hey Guys,
finally I managed to be able to refill the chips and use own filament for my HP DesignJet 3D. The procedure is very similar to the georgeous instruction made by Dan @gnurds - Thanks for this! But the partitions of the HP are different and the location of the files too. Much more easy than is the instruction of dan is to edit the local.rc because Knoppix can do it in GUI. So you do not need the terminal editor commands.
I tried to write the how2 as detailed as possible. If you have any suggested improvements please let me know.
You can download the how2 here: HP DesignJet 3D hack.pdf

Hi,
nice find.
So the read and write commands over the debug port do not need to know the secret for the chip.
The only thing you need to have is a valid eeprom dump. Am I correct? And you have to delete the system file thats storing the serial of course.

Right. No need to know the encryption. Just dump the content of a full chip and write it back when it is empty.
Maybe, for a uPrint, you can create a file with the stratasys-cli.Py
But for the HP I don't know the material in the file.Refill gewuenscht? PM auch gerne auf Deutsch!

Ist the chip empty? Then it is read only - locked! Rewrite is only possible when the eeprom isn't empty.

I tried two chips, M1 has 0.518/30.0 and M2 has 0.03/30 material. May be the printer detect this quantity empty. I don't tried to rewrite new chip. Our printer is stratasys uprint plus. Stratasys-mastar can read the dump file correct and i can create a new refilled file. I didn't modify the local.rc file but when i creted the refilled dump a chaged the serial number. Could this be the problem?

I think both are empty, and so locked.
Try to refill a half used eeprom.

Thank you very much, that was the problem. With stratasys-master we can create new refilled file. When we change the serial number doesn't need to delete the system.dat file.

You're right, with stratasys-master it is possible. I also wrote the V2 of the instruction but forgot to post it.

Thank you alot, this is very usefull! But dont working for uPrintSe+. I have read a dump of one cartrige chip and trying to decode it with stratasys-cli.py. In result got message for "content checksum error". I assume this is because machine number for SE+ is different than "uprint" and "uprintse" and it is not present in machine.py.... Any ideas how to get it? Thanks in advance!
Here is dump:
