XYZ Printing Da Vinci 1.0 3D Printer tips and tricks
Just ordered one of the Da Vinci 1.0 printers from xyz printing. Looking around the forum there was not too much info if any on them. Would like to find some other users who have it and get some tips and tricks for getting me started.
I have been messing around with TinkerCAd and Sketchup for building parts. I have downloaded Kisslicer and Cura but have not started playing with them.
I think this will be a cool addition to my my other CNC equipment cant wait to start making some stuff.
I'm thinking of building a site dedicated to getting this thing up and running and sharing my experiences with it like I have done with a few of my past projects. I did a site for my cnc router build: www.cncrouterbuild.com and my cnc plasma build at: www.cncplasmabuild.com.
Any advice / tips and tricks is appreciated.
Thanks

Hi DF, glad you are here, I can't help much with the 3D printer yet, but your plasma build looks helpful.
I have a 4 X 8 CNC and small arc/plasma cutter, I'll read up.

Thanks ShuttleSpace, I put more hours than you can imagine into getting all the info up on the web in the hope of helping others. I get emails from all around the world from people who have used the site as a guide. I can't seem to find much about this new 3d printer so I will likely do the same for it. I should not take on another project I need to work more on the cnc router mill project, but that's life.

The other day I tried to print using some translucent filament in my Da Vinci but the printer would not feed or let me use it. Turns out there is an optical sensor in the extruder that senses filament and cant see the clear. I found a way around this and created a quick tutorial with pictures on how to take care of this problem here: http://www.cncrouterbuild.com/usingt...tfilament.html

Hi,
Not a big following on here for the Da Vinci printer... I have one of them here and really like it, I have also gone the route of third party filament and have hacked the cartridges as well. I have built the same thing from voltivo for filament storage and I am waiting for bearings and it will be changed..

I have been pretty happy with the printer so far. I have been having problems with it seeing the filament cartridges lately. Even stock cartridges are being a pain. I tried printing with Octave black filament and have been getting really bad results. I have tried printing at 210, 220 and 235. same result each time. The layers do not hold together and the whole thing is very weak. Same part with stock filament prints great. So it seems that its the Octave filament.

XYZ Printing Da Vinci 1.0 3D Printer tips and tricks
I have been using Mankati Black, Red and Blue filament and it is great at standard temperatures. I did try the temp as high as 230 but I like the results from the standard temps. Do you still have the cartridge retainer holding it down from the top, has to be there to ensure that the chip has a good connection. I use the chip resetter that comes from Canada and I'm keeping the firmware at 1.1.G those with the later firmware seem to be having all sorts of quality problems so I am sticky with what I know works.

Hi guys. I've had my DaVinci a bit over a week and it's my 2nd 3d printer. The first was a Pursa i3 kit I got from NWRepRap. The i3 took a month to get half decent prints from, just and only just half decent prints. The DaVinci came out of the box making perfect prints and has continued to make excellent prints. Like they say, you can't beat success.
I ordered the resetting tools to get away from the expensive cartridges but I'm waiting for a shipment of ABS to come in. I have a lot of PLA on hand and will start working with that soon.
Over all, I've been very impressed with the DaVinci but hope to soon get some mods going to make it a even better machine. The folks at XYZ could do themselves a lot of good if they'd hang up the filament cartridge idea and just hang a spool holder outside the case.
Best to everybody!Last edited by stargeezer; 09-29-2014 at 08:09 AM.
