    3D scanning in university

I work as a Lecturer at a university and we have noticed that a 3D printer is a very nice thing to use for students. They can do their CAD exercises and look at them at the computer. Send the file to a printer and really feel the item in their hand after 1-2 hours.
We are now thinking of expanding our laboratory with a 3D scanner. The students do some models in clay, foam or wood and would like to get in to a computer for developing their design by CAD software.
We work in Creo and my question is: Has anyone some experience in 3D scanners and software for scanners to CAD programs?
