View Full Version : New build, repurposing an old pipette machine

I picked up this old machine a few weeks ago...darn near free! I gave my friend $40 for gas and free access to my lathe or CNC BP mill.

The machine has 4 axis (sorta, has a double Z)

So far I've taken it apart and still deciding which style printer to build, so far it looks like a gantry style will work and I'll be using some 40mm x 80mm aluminum extrusion for the frame that I picked up from another friend about 10 years ago. (I'm a hoarder and something I shall be addressing in the new year, hahaha)

I was able to find all the spec sheets for the drives (http://motion.schneider-electric.com/products/im483i_ie.html) and the motors which is nice. Not 100% sure if I'll use them or not, I have a bunch of other smaller steppers and drives that are spares from other projects or new old stock that I picked up from a company that moved and was tossing out old inventory.

I am undecided on the controls, I do have a Mega Arduino 2560 that I could use with RAMPS or do the LinuxCNC or Mach3 ( using Mach with my BP mill)

I guess I talk a lot and am always telling friends and co-workers what I want to do...networking works!

Yep, and I'm trying to see if he has another one for a co-worker of mine, so we can both suffer at the same time!
