    3DMonstr Fan Introduction Thread

    Folks,

If you've backed us on Kickstarter, or purchase our machines in the future, or are just really excited about our machines, please introduce yourself here. Let us know about you background, your projects, what's important to you in a 3D printer.

    Thanks!

    Ben Reytblat,
    Founder, 3DMonstr.

Ben - you forgot the link 3DMonstr:!

    Congrats on the successful Kickstarter!

I'm definitely excited to see the style machines you're developing with the ruggedization and portability focus.

Is there a specific reason you chose all of the machines to have a square rather than rectangular footprint?

@Paragon - keeping it square gave us better inventory management. This way all 4 ballscrews are exactly identical: 450mm for the -12, 600mm for the -18, and 900mm for the -24.

Once we have the production humming along, if anyone is seriously interested, and willing to pony up a little extra for the time needed to modify the machine, we could probably make a custom one-off with different sizes. The big limitations are going to be:
    - the print bed - getting Borosilicate glass in arbitrary sizes gets expensive in a hurry
    - as you get bigger, the moving table starts getting heavier fast (square-cube law) - which slows down print speed

Cost and inventory control was my guess.

I like the small business 'we'll make anything you pay for' attitude! My biggest fear about the 3d print revolution is the small players with the good attitude will be replaced by the Samsungs and LGs of the world...

Re: consolidation: yes, it is a very real danger. I wonder how this will all shake out. I suspect we'll start seeing it next year. But I think, as with many other markets, there will always be niches that are served by boutique vendors.

Regular glass will work fine. No need for Borosilicate.

Re: borosilicate: I just started a technical discussion thread (http://www.3dprintforums.com/forum/manufactu...iscussion.html) - let's take that discussion there.

Re: consolidation I took your idea and started a thread out in Manufacturers as it is off topic here

Is there a mod to stop this spammer?
