Point me in the right direction?

    Greetings all!

I'm new to 3d printing, have a project I want to pursue, but am not sure where to begin.

I want to make a plastic shell that will snugly press onto another item. Specifically, I want to scan a camera strobe light and make a diffuser that I can press onto the front of the strobe when I want to use it and then easily remove when it's not needed. Yes, I know some manufacturers make their own diffusers, but mine will have a few customizations not available elsewhere.

So many questions; maybe someone here can help point me in the right direction.
    1. Best way to scan the strobe?
    2. How to design the diffuser in what software?
    3. What materials should I consider for use when printing?

Many thanks to all for looking!

    Snoozer

In order to scan the strobe, it would be required to use some good-quality 3D scanner and as for the material, you could use ABS or PLA which are currently the best kinds of plastics available for 3D printing.

    1. Personally, I use a used Artec Eva Lite, but it's not so cheap, you can use any good 3D scanner which you can afford.
    2. Because of the scanner I'm using https://www.artec3d.com/3d-software/artec-studio for post-processing, but Rhino or other soft will be good too
    3. As mentioned above PLA or ABS is common choice

PM me for any additional info if you want
